The Department of Social Services is seeking a qualified attorney to perform professional legal work, providing essential counsel and representation for the department. This position involves responsibility for prosecuting legal actions and offering related legal services under the general direction of the Commissioner of Social Services. The successful candidate will act as a key legal consultant to various divisions, including Child Welfare and Public Assistance, and will represent the Department in Family Court matters such as child abuse, neglect, foster care, adoption, and child support. Salary Range: $102,258 - $113,134 per year (2026 rates), plus a $10,000 recruitment bonus

ASSISTANT CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

The Jefferson County Department of Code Enforcement is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a vacant, entry-level Assistant Code Enforcement Officer position. Primary responsibilities include conducting Lead-Based Paint Inspections and Dust Wipe Sampling in accordance with local regulations and EPA guidelines, as well as creating the reports, letters, and certificates associated with these inspections. Additional duties include administering and enforcing the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, as well as other laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to the construction or alteration of buildings and structures.

Salary Range:  $24.62 - $30.40 per hour (2026 Rates)

MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and either:

(C)  An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B), above.

Experience as a qualified building inspector can be substituted for an equivalent amount of the above required experience.

PUBLIC HEALTH SPECIALIST

Jefferson County Public Health Service seeks a Public Health Specialist for the Lead Rental Registry program.

•Oversee the property registration process and support rental property owners in navigating the software system.

•Responsible for planning, implementation, evaluation, and coordination of all functions of the Rental Registry program.

•Develop and submit policies, work plans, budgets, and quarterly reports to NYSDOH.

•Provide leadership for productive coordination among external partners including county, city, and community partners.

•Oversight and administration of all sub-contracts and MOUs needed to support the Rental Registry.

•Create a community-based coalition to address lead poisoning in the community.

•Work in conjunction with other staff to provide outreach and education to the community.

•Conduct program evaluation and continuous quality (process) improvement, including inspections.

•Coordinate with funding sources for financial assistance to property owners (e.g., lead hazard control funding programs).

•Ensure the recording or data entry of required inspection and remediation activity.

•EPA Certification as a Lead Inspector or Risk Assessor, while not required at the time of hire, will be required within the first year of employment

Salary Ranges:   $29.21- $36.58 (2025 rates),  $30.38 - $38.04 (2026 rates)
