NOTE! This is considered a freelance contract position with room and board as part of compensation in an INITIALLY TEMPORARY trial position. Employee will NOT be able to use the address for mailings and will need to get a PO box or receive their mail and packages at another address until permanent hire. Prospect will also need to have a back-up residence to move to in the event their contract becomes terminated. There is a possibility that the position may be shared between two contractors in a 3.5 day on/off rotation with separate rooms.
I am a 60y/o recently widowed gay tetraplegic (loss or diminished use of all four limbs plus bowel and urinary function) USN service connected veteran searching for preferably a LONG TERM live-in male health aide/handyman in my (mortgage free) home located 1 block from the public market in a bungalow on 4 combined lots (I own 2/3 of the block).
Currently inpatient @ Syracuse VAMC healing some pressure ulcers, discharge projected in May my spouse (partnered since 1988) passed away late September while I was here and in order for me to return to my home “safely” the VA needs someone in my house and I would prefer male. UPDATE! I may be able to allow move in before my discharge pending thorough vetting process.
Are you single (or maybe even gay coupled) and willing to move? I’m just finishing up having my house emptied to make a new start and I have a large front room with enclosed front porch and private entrance (UPDATE! NEWLY REMODELED PRIVATE BATH INCLUDED!), may even have a vehicle for you to drive (and own even). Rent FREE, $2400/mo and you would become eligible for monthly VA caregiver allowance ($900-1200/mo).
You would still be able to work at least part time, my personal care is minimal and largely expected to be provided by qualified visiting home nurse (initially) but household care is total. I still drive and am fiercely independent.
Neighborhood is a tiny bit ‘sketchy’ but I’ve gained respect in it and the property is fenced with two driveway gates (mine is automated).
On top of being my assistant, employee would be responsible for basic upkeep of entire premises inside and out all seasons. Equipment, tools, supplies will be provided.
I’ll be ordering weekly meals from an online delivery service but may need some help preparing them, receiving them (along with other deliveries), must be nearby when transferring to the shower, I’ll be finally using my nu-step exercise machine and will need at least initial help getting loaded on/off of that but the overhead motorized ceiling hoist does all the lifting.
There is a single person jacuzzi tub in the rear bathroom but I can’t use it and the air circulation may need repair but walk-in tub/shower works, either contractor may use it.
There is a King size bed in the attic that can be brought down which would open that small room up for alternate private use or use your own furniture if you have it. A second or both new beds will be purchased if required.
House has on-demand hot water so limitless, just not high pressure.
I’d like to get pets again so will need help feeding/cleaning up after them
Bottom line, whomever becomes my permanent employee(s) will have the freedom to pursue whatever passion they desire and want for pretty much nothing so long as I’m not left uncared for over relatively long periods (more than a day or two). I’ll likely have visiting health care aids in the mornings to get me up and around so it’s more of a personal assistant function but medical experience is a plus.
Been here for 30 years as a “minority” in this community being Gay and Caucasian without issue but probably because I’ve never “flaunted” either trait nor have I raised issues with anyone else’s gender, race. life choices, professions or any other activities. I would expect the same from anyone choosing to cohabit with me.
There is also opportunity for wages in assisting me in starting my business which basically is all about creating a whole new paradigm of energy harvesting, storage and distribution using compressed air instead of the vulnerable electric grids. I’m in the process of planning the build of an entire R/D lab, manufacturing facility and outlet hub for selling parts for people to build their own free energy devices from designs that are popping up all over the internet recently. My property is actually zoned within Public Market Village District which allows me to build pretty much anything I want to.
Another passion of mine is vertical hydroponics and I have a prototype built for development as well and I will be incorporating greenhouse structures into the build as well. I can eventually combine compressed air and hydroponics together to create compact self-sustaining energy and food production/harvesting devices for every type of dwelling on the planet. And you can be a part of this.
Short intro to vertical hydroponic system:

Biggest hurdle though is the relatively complete lack of the (individual) use of my hands so I have to employ others to manifest my ideas into reality and an ideal “partner” in this endeavor would be someone who shares the same space with me and doesn’t work a full time job sapping their energy and time and focus just to pay rent and utilities. Fortunately I get significant benefits from the VA and SSDI and now I will be getting a portion of my former spouse’s benefits as well, I have no mortgage nor car nor student loan payments PLUS whomever acts in a caregiver capacity for me will receive additional monthly government funds.
From my hospital bed I’ve recently completed a 10 week course offered by the Paralyzed Veteran’s of America’s Veteran’s Career Program in self employment and entrepreneurship and as a result I’m currently registering my company SUPACO Inc. (Sustainable Utility & Personalized Agriculture Community Organization SUPACO.org) to develop my Anastasia fluidic rocking air compressor prototype that I’ve spent the past 5 years building at the local Rochester Makerspace non-profit facility at 800 St.Paul St. here is a peek at it:

The next chapter of my life will be an adventure whether wildly prosperous or mediocre existence but I REFUSE to go back to living in squalor of my previous years. If this sounds appealing to you, let’s give it a shot.
Reply by email only WITH A RESUME or basically as much detail about yourself that fits what I’m looking for and from which I will be able to perform a complete background check. (References are highly recommended).
NOTE! Responses without any of the above will not be answered nor considered.
AGAIN, I really don’t want this to be a transitional stay, really need someone for the long haul.
UPDATE! There’s room for at least 2 applicants that I’m learning may work out better in order to swap “sitting” duties, negotiations will need to take place over wages and the ‘dynamics’ of hourly/daily schedules.looking for.
About the roomies
