In accordance with the provision of Article 22 of the collective bargaining agreement between the Village of Horseheads and the CSEA Local 1000, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, the Village hereby announces the following job opening:

Job Title:                                 Equipment Operator

Rate of Pay:                             $22.71-$23.42/hour, plus benefits

Location of Position:               The Village of Horseheads

Hours of Work:                        7:00am – 3:30pm Monday thru Friday (overtime as needed)

Closing Date:                           November 1, 2024

Qualifications:

1. Graduation from a regionally accredited New York State registered two-year college or university with an Associate Degree in Heavy Duty Equipment Technology

or

Graduation from High School or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma and one (1) year of full-time paid experience in the operation of automotive equipment such as dump trucks, snowplows and other similar automotive equipment other than pleasure vehicles.

2. Possession of a valid New York State Class B Driver’s License at the time of appointment
3. Successfully pass drug and alcohol screening and background check
4. Ability to lift 40 – 50 pounds

Typical Work Activities:

• Operates a truck in connection with removal of snow and refuse, and in the transportation of stone, gravel and other materials.
• Operates a tractor or truck with snowplow, dozer, or other attachments.
• Operates other street/road construction equipment.
• Performs or assists in preventative maintenance on department equipment
• Performs manual labor such as loading trucks, digging ditches, cutting trees and brush, flushing storm sewers, cleaning culverts and raking blacktop.
• May supervise others as specific tasks require.

Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:

Good knowledge of the operation of tractors, trucks, and other automotive equipment; knowledge of the laws and regulations governing the operation of motor vehicles; good knowledge of the geography of the area; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instruction; mechanical aptitude; willingness to respond to emergencies and perform overtime work; willingness to work outside under adverse weather conditions; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
