CIVIL ENGINEER II

Responsible for technical and engineering aspects of FDOT transportation construction projects and maintenance contracts of existing road infrastructure facilities; perform field inspections to fill out data coding sheet and enter roadway characteristics data in computer database; ensure the timely and costly completion of construction projects by overseeing all phases of each project; plan, schedule, test, complete special tasks, and assist inspection of construction jobsites; work with inspectors, and monitor deadlines and budget constraints; conduct plan reviews for constructability and adherence to Department standards and specifications; develop and/or review policies, methods, practices, and procedures; prepare reports and documentation that support the development of project strategies, field condition, change of order, to meet commitments and abide by state and federal regulations; review changes of orders or work orders, following the activities, equipment and materials related to each unit price analysis  of the pay item qualifications shown in the documents; analyze complex plans and perform independent complex technical field assignments to identify potential construction problems including utility network within the state Right of Way; monitor contractors work activities performed and quantify each construction activity using the corresponding pay item qualifications to support contractor payments; collect concrete samples and conduct testing; test soils, aggregate and asphalt for acceptable materials and mix; inspect and test concrete-reinforced steel for structures, including bridges, traffic signal mast arms, etc; review plans and modifications due to field problems; prepare daily reports and maintain inspection records; perform material quality control procedures, safety related inspections and environmental assessments; communicate with clients and supervisor’s project progress reports and budget. Will work under the supervision of a licensed engineer.

 

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent foreign degree

2 years of experience as Civil Engineer II

Must have knowledge in unit price analysis and pay item qualifications
