Dakota State University is seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Disability and Testing Services Coordinator to join our Student Affairs team. This role is essential in ensuring that the university remains compliant with federal and state regulations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, while also overseeing comprehensive testing services for the university community.
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position for most of the year. However, during the months of June and July, the position will shift to 50% time, allowing for a reduced work schedule while continuing to fulfill essential responsibilities. This unique arrangement provides flexibility during the summer while maintaining year-round engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with ADA, Section 503 and 504, and other relevant laws and regulations concerning persons with disabilities.
- Work closely with current students, prospective students, and parents to discuss ADA accommodations and options at the collegiate level.
- Review medical documentation to determine and implement appropriate accommodations.
- Develop and maintain essential procedure and policy documents, such as the ADA Handbook, Request for Accommodations, Meal Plan Exemptions, Medical Single-Room Requests, and Emotional Support Animal Approvals.
- Manage the review process for Medical Exceptions, Emotional Support Animals, and meal plan accommodations.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) regulations.
- Schedule and coordinate readers, notetakers, and interpreters for students as needed.
- Oversee and manage the DSU Testing Center, ensuring efficient and secure operations for all testing services.
- Coordinate placement testing, proctoring services, and the administration of ACT and other national testing services.
- Proctor exams for students utilizing ADA accommodations.
- Collaborate with university departments and external organizations to ensure smooth and effective delivery of all testing services.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree in disability services or a related field is preferred.
- Knowledge of ADA, Section 503 and 504, and other disability-related regulations.
- Experience in disability services within a higher education setting is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and FERPA compliance.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- High attention to detail, particularly in documentation and compliance.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
