Chip’s Tool & Machine Works located in Peoria, Illinois is looking for a highly talented and qualified welder to join our small dynamic team. We are seeking a hardworking professional who likes meeting challenges and surpassing client expectations. Your chief responsibilities will include interpreting customer designs and blueprints, welding specific customer work, monitoring welding machinery, and assessing all welded components to specific customer and industry welding standards.
To excel in this role, you must have in-depth knowledge of industry blueprint reading (understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing), industry welding standards and general/specific welding equipment. The successful candidate must have a steady hand and outstanding attention to detail.
Position Details
- Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
- Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM (Day Shift); occasional Saturdays and overtime
- Compensation: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour, based on experience and certifications.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing code-compliant welds and braze on customer structural components, primarily using carbon steel, non-ferrous materials and occasional stainless steels.
- Manage Workload: Demonstrate a self-starting attitude and ability to work independently and/or with team members to maintain high quality productivity. Keeps up with workload schedule.
- Perform GMAW (MIG) and GTAW (TIG) welding in all positions (3G/4G) on structural beams, columns, plates, and rounds.
- Perform industrial brazing operations according to procedural specifications.
- Read and interpret simple to complex blueprints, welding/brazing symbols, and WPS/BPS (Welding/Brazing Procedure Specifications).
- Assist team and/or environment in other activities (simple machining, quality control, shipping/receiving, materials preparation) as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Personal Drive: Must be a self-motivated, results-oriented individual capable of prioritizing tasks and managing low to high-volume workload with minimal supervision.
- Welding Certification: Current or easily renewable certification to AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Carbon steels are mandatory.
- Brazing Certification: Prior qualification or the ability to qualify under AWS B2.2/B2.2M (Specification for Brazing Procedure and Performance Qualification) is required.
- Process Proficiency: Demonstrated experience and qualification in:
- GMAW (MIG) and GTAW (TIG) welding.
- Industrial Brazing techniques.
- Material: Proven experience joining non-ferrous and carbon steel (e.g., ASTM A36, A572 Grade 50, and 4140) components.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of professional structural joining experience. Production welding environment preferred but not required.
- Physical: Must be able to lift to 50 lbs. and work comfortably in all required positions.
