Animal Welfare

Animal Attendant Veterinary Assistant

The Humane Society of Atlantic County operates a very busy animal shelter and veterinary hospital that is open to the public.  Our staff care for both homeless and privately owned animals.  Our shelter maintains a no kill philosophy where adoptable animals are kept until they find their new families. The majority of our animals come from other shelters due to their overcrowding.  Our veterinary hospital has modern equipment such as new digital x-ray and an in house lab. In addition to the veterinary hospital and the shelter,  the HSAC has operated a busy Spay/Neuter Clinic since 1978. The hospital employs full time, part time, and relief veterinarians and treats dogs and cats.

Employment openings range from entry level veterinary assistants and animal attendants to more experienced veterinary technicians and veterinarians.  The HSAC employs both full and part time shelter and veterinary poisitions and strives to maintain a team attitude where people are encouraged to grow. Since we are a non-profit, people with good marketing skills are valued as well.  Our employees must be willing to work hard, and possess good people skills. Animal handling skills are a plus although we will train appropriate candidates.

Compensation is competitive and the HSAC offers vacation and health benefits based on position held. Classifications are receptionists, veterinary assistants, veterinary technicians, animal attendants and adoption counselors, supervisors, managers, and veterinarians. If you are interested in working for a very busy non-profit organization that puts patient care above billing and  you have great people skills,  come see us. Many of our employees have been here many years while others learn the skills needed and move on to other practices. We are an equal oppertunity employer and we welcome diversity in our staff.  Bilingual is often helpful but not required.  Our website is and applications for employment or volunteering can be located on that site.
