Job Summary

The Research Machinist/Welder plans and performs a broad range of machining and bench operations, as well as hand welding to fabricate a variety of short run special or experimental parts, jigs, and fixtures per customer requirements.

Job Summary

The HVAC/r & Building Maintenance Technician will perform diversified duties for general building maintenance including carpentry, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and painting. HVAC-r responsibilities include repair, maintenance and installation of refrigeration, air conditioning, chilled water, compressed air, heating and ventilation systems and associated controls. Participates in on-call rotation in accordance with standard operating procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of three (3) years of related and progressively more responsible experience in HVAC/r or Associate Degree from an HVAC/r related curriculum. 
• EPA Refrigeration Certification to handle EPA Type 1 and 2 or Universal refrigerant within 120 days of hire
• Valid US driver’s license
• Must have the ability to be medically qualified for respirator use.

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• HVAC and control system installation and maintenance experience
• Experience with building management systems
• NYS Certified Pesticide Applicator Class 7G 
• Associate Degree from an HVAC/r related curriculum.

• Demonstrated fundamental knowledge of basic refrigeration systems
• Knowledge of basic construction trades including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and metal work
• Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and tune small boilers, furnaces, heat pumps
• Ability to identify and resolve problems in field
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and diagnose basic electrical circuits
• Ability to read and interpret blue prints, pneumatic prints, digital flow charts, schematic drawings and control diagrams
• Ability to utilize electrical, pneumatic and digital control systems and applications
• Ability to use networked building management systems
• Ability to operate and make basic adjustments to reciprocating and centrifugal chillers
•  Ability to maintain control air compressors
•  Ability to use hand tools and power tools
• Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, and lifts
• Excellent customer relation skills
• Ability to work independently and as a team member
• Ability to operate a computer using standard office software and industry specific software

Job Summary

The Groundskeeper performs grounds and landscape duties, snow removal and equipment operations associated with the maintenance of the campus grounds and athletic fields and support all campus wide events.

Minimum Qualifications

High School/Equivalent and one (1) year of experience in landscape maintenance including operation of grounds related equipment

Valid US driver’s license

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience will be considered.

Job Duties

1. Perform all tasks necessary for routine maintenance of athletic fields and campus landscapes/projects in accordance with Rensselaer’s seasonal grounds maintenance program.  Monitor campus grounds for trash/debris and empty/clean external trash areas. 
2. Perform proper planting techniques for trees, shrubs, groundcovers, bulbs, perennials and annuals. Perform proper bed maintenance techniques such as weeding, edging, mulching, plant removal/replacement, seasonal cleanup, pruning and dead-heading. 
3. Inspect, maintain and operate grounds and field related power equipment at proper working and safety standards. Clean equipment daily or at the end of each use.  Report and document any needed repairs of equipment.
4. Provide support for campus functions and events, including event preparation, setup and breakdown, litter control and site restoration. Provide support for athletic field operations and campus moves as required.
5. Maintain water requirements for plant material and turf areas. Utilize manual irrigation when conditions warrant.
6. Perform snow removal functions in accordance with the Institute snow removal plan. Respond to and be available for weather related emergencies as necessary to maintain safe transportation through campus.  Operate, maintain and inspect all snow removal equipment in accordance with Institute’s standards.
7. Comply with standing instructions provided by operating manuals, safety rules and regulations for personal protection and safety and the safety of others. Report instances of vandalism/theft of Institute property immediately to Supervisor or Public Safety. Maintain work and storage areas in a clean, organized and safe condition.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic/Plumber performs a wide range of repair and maintenance duties primarily related to plumbing equipment and systems. Performs maintenance and repair work on but not limited to utility infrastructure, building systems, steam heating systems, laboratories, exhaust fans, pumps, and air compressors. Participates in on-call rotation in accordance with standard operating procedures.

Job Summary

The Mover & Grounds Specialist performs moves, supports campus events. Performs snow removal, grounds and landscape duties, and equipment operations associated with the maintenance of the campus.

Job Duties

1. Process work order requests for completion associated with moving support.  
2. Operate fleet moving truck in transportation of equipment, materials and other items as requested. Safely operate material handling equipment such as, but not limited to lift gates, pallet jacks and loading dock lifts.
3. Provide support for campus functions and events, including event preparation, setup and breakdown, litter control and site restoration.
4. Protect items being transported and moved using appropriate materials. Protect buildings, elevators, grounds as necessary in preparation for movement of items. Assess building spaces, including rooms, hallways, and/or elevators, and materials to be moved for damage prior to move and document and report any pre-existing damage.
5. Assist in sustainment of moving equipment, storage areas and equipment maintenance. Notify E&SS management of any equipment needing to be repaired and/or replaced.
6. Comply with standing instructions provided by operating manuals, safety rules and regulations for personal protection and safety and the safety of others. Report instances of vandalism/theft of Institute property immediately to Supervisor or Public Safety. Maintain work and storage areas in a clean, organized and safe condition.
7. Perform snow removal functions in accordance with the Institute snow removal plan.
