
Resource Management Specialist-Metadata & Digitization
Performs digitization, metadata services, quality control, and student supervision to ensure access to digitized library materials, born-digital items, openly available materials, and scholarly works created at Union College.Work Days: Monday - Friday

Position Title: Resource Management Specialist-Metadata & Digitization
Pay Status and Classification: Non-exempt, Regular Full-time
Supervisor: Digital Projects & Metadata Librarian

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Supervision:Supervises digital lab students. Trains and supervises students for digitization lab tasks.
Digital Projects:Participates in digital project workflows. Assists in the production and description of digital materials for institutional repository, digital scholarship, open access, and open educational resources.
Data Management:Participates in workflow analysis and documentation. Participates in data cleanup, workflow improvements, and testing of new procedures. Helps refine and document current processes and create new workflows for data. Participates in general library and departmental projects. As needed, manage the batch loading and deleting of records, utilizing specialized programs and interfaces to create, manipulate, and transfer files of records for complex maintenance routines on digitized materials.
Archival Processing:Assists with processing and describing archival collections under the supervision of archivist colleagues.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and/or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience.
Familiarity or interest in metadata principles, data manipulation tools, and file management best practices is preferred.
Experience with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) or Google Workspace.
Ability to analyze data and synthesize best practices, adapting to a dynamic technology and workflow environment.
Detail-oriented, particularly around descriptive language and handling of materials.
The ability to foster and enhance a thriving, diverse, inclusive, and culturally vibrant community, while promoting a sense of belonging among students, faculty and staff colleagues, and alumni.
Prior supervisory or instruction experience preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of one or more foreign languages is desirable.
Prior experience working in a special collections, archival, or digital collections environment is desirable.
Compensation:
The hourly range for this position is $21.40 per hour. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
