Travel Percentage: Up to 50%

Family Peer Advocate

Northern Rivers

Albany – 60 Academy Road, Families United Network program

As a Family Peer Advocate, you will help children with emotional and mental health challenges through support and advocacy with parents and caregivers. You will report to the Program Manager, Community Solutions and Peer Support and you will work onsite with travel required.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support, advocacy and resources to the family based on the child's needs as identified by the parent/caregiver
  • Provide services within a Family-driven Care framework, including respecting family choice and voice, believing in each family’s potential to learn and grow, and utilizing strategies that empower families
  • Work with family members to identify goals and objectives of treatment
  • Educate parents/caregivers on how to advocate if services are not meeting their needs
  • Participate in relevant treatment meetings and attend all required trainings
  • Complete all documentation

Requirements and Education:

  • Family Peers have identified lived experience as a parent or primary caregiver of a child with mental health/behavioral health/special education challenges.
  • Provisional Family Peer Credential required, with Professional Family Peer Credential to be obtained within 18 months.
  • Minimum of HS Diploma or equivalency.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License required
