Position Title: Academic Advisor/Tutor Coordinator Of AOP/HEOP
Pay Status and Classification: Non-exempt, Regular Full-time
Supervisor: Director of AOP/HEOP
Position Purpose:
The Academic Advisor/Tutor Coordinator of AOP/HEOP helps provide leadership and administrative support for two educational opportunity programs that have existed at the College since 1969.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Student Advising:Provide advising services for a caseload of approximately 50 students. This includes social, career, financial, and academic advising. First-year students meet weekly with their Academic Advisor; sophomores and juniors have a minimum meeting requirement of twice per term; seniors once per term. Advising hours and notes must be logged for required state reporting and interdepartmental communication.
Management of the AOP Tutoring Program: Management includes hiring and training Tutors and Tutor Coordinators; establishing policies and procedures for the implementation of tutoring; processing of tutor time sheets and tutor reports; coordinating room reservations; gathering tutoring data from other campus departments; and overseeing data collection and input of tutoring hours for HEOP reporting. Also, to build cooperation and collaboration with other departments.
Management of the Peer Assistance Link (PAL) program: This includes the process of pairing incoming first-years with Upperclass students based on survey data; organizing a “meet & greet” event for all PAL participants at the start of fall term; planning one event per term for all mentors and mentees; identifying PAL mentor/mentee award recipients for AOP Year End Celebration; and conducting assessment of the program.
Reporting: Assist with required reporting for bi-annual HEOP reports to the New York State Education Department. This includes documentation of advising services as well as student performance and achievement, and entering relevant data and notes into reports. Will assist with other data collection and input as necessary.
AOP/HEOP Summer Program: Assist the Director with the planning and implementation of the five week AOP/HEOP Summer Program for approximately 30 incoming AOP/HEOP students. This can include hiring summer faculty and staff, providing staff training, collecting student data, compiling the schedule, arranging presentations and workshops, organizing weekend activities, and being on-call for emergencies.
Coordinate events and workshops for AOP/HEOP students: In collaboration with other AOP/HEOP staff, identify desired events, workshops, and information to provide for students and help facilitate their implementation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with 1-3 years experience and/or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience with access programs designed for underprepared and/or underrepresented students.
Possess demonstrated skills in advising and presenting/public speaking.
Candidate should be proficient in using software for program management, data collection, and program assessment.
Masters degree preferred.
Compensation:
The pay range for this position is $26.00-$28.00 per hour. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
