Job Summary | The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE in Troy, NY, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or tenured Associate Professor position in Materials Science and Engineering with expertise and potential in the broad area of bulk/thin film metallic materials. Example research foci and applications include nanoelectronics device wiring, packaging and integration, energy generation (e.g., nuclear, thermoelectric, wind, solar) and storage (e.g., batteries, supercapacitors), light-weight high-strength structures, alloy design, microstructure development, additive manufacturing, and environmental degradation. We will also consider exceptional candidates from other related areas. Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the potential and zest to develop and maintain an internationally recognized funded research program, actively contribute to the core graduate and undergraduate teaching mission of the department and the school, and engage in department, institute, and professional service activities. The New York State Center for Future Energy Systems conducts fundamental and applied research to accelerate the development of energy-efficient and renewable energy technologies. The Center for Computational Innovation and the Scientific Computation Research Center house one of the most powerful computers for AI applications - the Artificial Intelligence Multiprocessing Optimized System (AiMOS). Job Summary | The Economic and Industry Analyst will analyze and make recommendations for progress of the sustainable fashion industry, from farms and new materials to processing to brands and design, in New York State and in general (in the U.S. and worldwide). The Analyst will review and keep abreast of pertinent studies and research, and will seek information from industry data sources, carry out interviews and surveys, and analyze and interpret the information. The work is based at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as part of the Fashion Innovation Center (FIC). The Analyst will interact with FIC members and participants to learn about the industry, discuss sustainable fashion industry problems and potential solutions, consider ways to advance the industry in New York State, and document relevant information and findings in report, paper, and/or book form. The Analyst will also provide suggestions where relevant to innovative project participants in the FIC’s accelerator. The Analyst will work closely with the Center Director and other FIC members. |
Minimum Qualifications | Doctorate (ex: Ph.D./J.D./Ed.D. or other) in Economics, Management, or a related field Experience in economics and/or management including research study design and interpretation, econometric and statistical analysis, and data collection. Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered. |
Preferred Qualifications | • Knowledge and experience specific to fashion, textile manufacture and processing, new materials, and/or fiber agriculture desirable |

The Industrial and Systems Engineering Department (ISE, http://www.ise.rpi.edu) offers degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. ISE has a rich history of addressing important societal challenges since 1933. The ISE Department has been highly interdisciplinary, with faculty employing methods from optimization, mathematics, statistics, cognitive science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to model, analyze, and solve complex decision-making problems in highly networked natural and social systems, with applications to critical infrastructure, homeland security, on-demand supply chains, and team performance. This work has been supported by numerous federal, state, and foundation awards. The ISE curricula draw directly on cutting-edge research results and pedagogical innovations, and benefit from ongoing collaborations with other Rensselaer departments, most recently in the department’s new institute-wide minor in Data Science and Engineering. In 2022, the ISE department graduated 29 bachelors and 8 graduate (Masters + PhD) students and has growing enrollments. As part of this renewal, we seek applications for the Frank and Lillian Gilbreth Endowed Chaired and Tenured Full Professorship in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer. Job Summary | The Procurement Agent is responsible for ensuring that supplier data is accurate, up to date, and in compliance with Institute policies. The Agent assists with evaluating and negotiating small dollar procurements, consistent with Rensselaer policies. Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Procurement, the Agent works closely with E-Business prioritizing master agreements, supplier enablement, and other contract opportunities. In collaboration with other areas in the Controller’s Office, facilitates encumbrance releases and develops training materials and programs focused on compliance with policies and procedures. |
