Job Summary | The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in August 2026. Our department seeks candidates whose research develops and applies mathematical frameworks toward the understanding of challenging problems with societal or technological impact in areas such as the life sciences, quantum systems, and engineering. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering welcomes applicants with a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and mentoring undergraduates in the field of Civil Engineering. The CEE Department currently possesses expertise in the fields of geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, water quality and hydrology. We are particularly interested in increasing our capacity in the field of Structural Engineering. The new hire will teach courses in the curriculum as appropriate, including core classes and upper-level courses such as the fundamental theory of structure, as well as electives. In addition, there is an expectation that all new hires in the Department will teach at least one course annually to non-engineers ideally as part of the College’s new Complex Questions/Global Challenges and Social Justice common curriculum. The new hire will also be heavily involved in the ABET accreditation process which includes opportunities for curriculum development and assessment.
The successful candidate will also have a passion for interdisciplinary collaboration. The CEE department has a close relationship with the Environmental Science, Policy, and Engineering Program. In addition, consistent with Union’s goal to break new ground with respect to integrating engineering fields with the liberal arts, we welcome applicants who are eager to explore joint programming possibilities with departments and programs in the humanities and social sciences, including with interdisciplinary programs.
All candidates must have an earned Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering and expertise in the area of structural engineering; applicants close to finishing the Ph.D. will be considered. We are seeking a candidate whose research area explores the interaction between biological systems and the environment as it relates to epidemiology and/or public health. Potential subjects of study include, but are not limited to: host-vector biology, microbiomes, evolution and transmission of infectious agents, genetic epidemiology, and environmental influences on pathogenesis. Candidates using combinations of field-based, wet-lab, genomics, and/or computational approaches are highly preferred. All candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in a biology or in a related field and preference will be given to those with at least one year of postdoctoral experience in research or teaching. The Department of Biological Sciences at Union College is committed to teaching and mentoring students in the classroom and in our active research laboratories. We contribute to numerous interdisciplinary programs including Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Environmental Science and Policy, Environmental Engineering, and Nanoscience (https://www.union.edu/interdisciplinary-studies). Housed in the newly-constructed Integrated Science and Engineering Complex, the Department is well equipped with NSF-funded instrumentation such as a microCT, a confocal microscope, a 3-D multi camera motion analysis system, Illumina DNA sequencer, scanning electron microscope, greenhouse space, growth chambers, and substantial microscopy, tissue culture and animal care facilities. We also have access to a continuous flow isotope mass spectrometer, elemental analyzer, and an ICPMS in Union College’s Stable Isotope and Geochemistry Laboratory. The College is situated in close proximity to a variety of terrestrial and aquatic habitats including the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains, the Mohawk River as well as numerous lakes, urban and suburban areas that are amenable to field study.

Position description:
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering welcomes applicants with a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and mentoring undergraduates in the field of Environmental Engineering. The CEE Department currently has expertise in the areas of water quality, soil and sediment remediation, risk assessment, hydrology, sustainable treatment, water and wastewater management, and contaminant fate and transport processes. Job Summary | Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is pleased to invite applications for anticipated openings for Adjunct, Lecturer, Sr. Lecturer, and Professor of Practice in the School of Architecture. These appointments may be made for one to three years, and are renewable, contingent upon available funding, enrollment, satisfactory performance, and the business needs of the School of Architecture. Adjunct appointments are made for a single semester. All appointments are contingent upon enrollment and are renewable. |
Minimum Qualifications | Candidates are expected to have a terminal degree in an area related to the subject matter of their teaching. Candidates must be able to provide evidence of effective teaching or instruction. An Adjunct classification is a non-tenured temporary academic appointment. An Adjunct Faculty must have the prerequisite academic teaching experience and credentials in the course subject area and discipline. |
