Job Summary

The School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is pleased to invite applications for anticipated part time and/or fixed term Adjunct and Lecturer openings in several areas. These appointments may be made for one to three years, and are renewable, contingent upon available funding, enrollment, satisfactory performance, and the business needs of the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. Adjunct appointments are made for a single semester. All appointments are renewable.

Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must have a relevant terminal degree.

An Adjunct classification is a non-tenured temporary academic appointment. An Adjunct Faculty must have the prerequisite academic teaching experience and credentials in the course subject area and discipline.

A Lecturer must demonstrate expertise and/or experience in a specific academic course subject, academic discipline area, and must have had prior substantive teaching experience and/or experience as a practicing professional at a senior level. A Sr. Lecturer must also have attained a significant level of scholarly and/or research activity and/or funding.

A Professor of Practice has obtained unique professional experience, has distinguished research, and/or has performed at an executive or officer level, and has made a significant impact within a subject matter or discipline in a field important to Rensselaer’s research and academic programs. A Professor of Practice is expected to have substantial leadership experience of at least (10-15 years) and generally a national or international reputation for excellence in their field of expertise.

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range:

• Adjunct:  $6000 - $7000 per semester
• Lecturer:  $50,000 - 73,000 per academic year
• Sr. Lecturer: $60,000 - 80,000 per academic year
• Professor of Practice: $70,000 - $90,000 per academic year

Job Summary

The Department of Biological Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Computational Ecology. We seek a passionate and innovative individual who uses sophisticated computational methods and/or mathematical modeling applied to large and complex datasets to understand and/or forecast biological and ecological phenomena across time and space. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated potential to establish a strong externally funded research program, primarily in computational ecology but with potential for a laboratory component, and contribute to the teaching mission of the department.

Qualifications

All candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree, or foreign degree equivalent in ecology and/or biology or a closely related field. Postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred. Candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor must exhibit promise of future distinction in research, scholarship, and teaching.  Specifically, candidates who have the demonstrated potential to establish a strong externally funded research program, primarily in computational ecology but with potential for a laboratory component are desired.

The Department of Communication and Media in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute seeks applicants for the Thomas Phelan Endowed Chair & Department Head in Communication & Media, a tenured faculty position beginning in August 2025.

We welcome candidates whose research focuses on the material dimensions of digital media technologies including their sociocultural, political practices and how those practices impact the public sphere. We encourage scholars from diverse perspectives and methodologies to apply, including those whose work spans communication, media, and related disciplines. Job Summary

The Department of Science and Technology Studies (STS) in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the areas of equitable design, sustainability and design, design justice, collaborative or participatory design, product design, industrial design, or object design. The person hired for this position will conduct research at the intersection of design and STS, which may include publications, exhibitions, commissions, or collaborative projects.

The position is 40% teaching, 40% research, 20% service. The selected candidate will teach required and elective courses for the major in Design, Innovation, and Society (DIS). Studio courses are the curricular core of this program, where students engage in design practices informed by STS theory and research, with an emphasis on social justice and sustainability. The successful candidate will teach both studio courses and undergraduate seminars such as such as “Politics of Design” and “Design, Culture, and Society.” Additionally, the selected candidate will teach courses and mentor students in the PhD program in Science and Technology Studies, a program that emphasizes scholarly inquiry about the mutual shaping of science, technology, and society.

We seek a scholar who will contribute to the STS Department’s broader commitments to socially engaged STS and design of alternative futures. Applicants should have a record of creative research and/or design practice and show promise of advancing the STS Department’s mission of synthesizing design practice with the social sciences and humanities.

Job Summary

The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, is seeking applications for the prestigious Frank and Lillian Gilbreth Endowed Chaired Professorship in Industrial and Systems Engineering. Job Summary

The Department of Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in Troy, NY, invites applications from outstanding candidates for multiple tenure-track assistant professor positions in computer science. We are particularly interested in the areas of software, languages, and systems, algorithms and theory, natural language processing, computer vision, quantum computing, and cross-cutting topics. Strong applicants in other areas will also be considered.

RPI has invested significant resources into next generation computing and AI, with the launch of the Future of Computing Institute which focuses on new computing paradigms and AI to solve societal challenges. Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent in Computer Science or a related area, and they must show evidence of emerging research distinction and a clear interest in graduate and undergraduate education. Successful candidates will have duties that include developing and maintaining robust programs of research and scholarship, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, and service to the department, to Rensselaer, and to the professional community.

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range: $125,000-$135,000  per 9-month academic year

Job Summary

These appointments may be made for one to three years, and are renewable, contingent upon available funding, enrollment, satisfactory performance, and the business needs of the School of Architecture. Adjunct appointments are made for a single semester. 

 All appointments are contingent upon enrollment and are renewable.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates are expected to have a terminal degree in an area related to the subject matter of their teaching.  Candidates must be able to provide evidence of effective teaching or instruction.

An Adjunct classification is a non-tenured temporary academic appointment. An Adjunct Faculty must have the prerequisite academic teaching experience and credentials in the course subject area and discipline.

A Lecturer must demonstrate expertise and/or experience in a specific academic course subject, academic discipline area, and must have had prior substantive teaching experience and/or experience as a practicing professional at a senior level. A Sr. Lecturer must also have attained a significant level of scholarly and/or research activity and/or funding.

A Professor of Practice has obtained unique professional experience, has distinguished research, and/or has performed at an executive or officer level, and has made a significant impact within a subject matter or discipline in a field important to Rensselaer’s research and academic programs. A Professor of Practice is expected to have substantial leadership experience of at least (10-15 years) and generally a national or international reputation for excellence in their field of expertise.

The Lally School of Management is pleased to invite applications for anticipated Adjunct, Lecturer, Sr. Lecturer, and Professor of Practice openings that may be available in several areas. These appointments may be made for one to three years, and are renewable, contingent upon available funding, enrollment, satisfactory performance, and the business needs of the Lally School of Management.
