As the Behavior Support Classroom Specialist, you will ensure the safety of the students in the Alternative Programming Room. You will coordinate clinical, academic, and restorative efforts for students in APR. You will report to the Dean of Students and will work onsite.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate daily schedule for Alternative Programming Room with teaching staff, classroom staff, and clinicians.
- Coordinate Restorative Practices efforts with the administrative team
- Communicate with leadership team regarding incidents and interventions.
- Support and correct behavior support staff interactions and interventions with students.
- Ensure that APR support staff follow school and agency procedures while working with students.
- Coordinate with treatment teams and families regarding behavioral concerns that are affecting the milieu and academic programming.
- Help design and implement treatment services for children in collaboration with students, educators, administrators, and clinicians.
- Assist and educate staff with implementation of crisis intervention work, conflict resolution, and mediation strategies throughout the school.
- Be a school liaison with residential staff to ensure consistency of care and support of students across programs.
- Participate in implementation of PBIS Tier II and Tier III student plans.
- Collaborate with all members of the school and clinical treatment team to ensure ongoing communication and consistency of interventions and treatment for students.
- Ensure that all reporting forms are completed and returned to the appropriate source.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding student information observing agency, state, and federal regulators.
- Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Maintain TCI Training
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Northern Rivers has opportunities for Teacher Aides at our Neil Hellman School. The school serves residential and day students with serious emotional, behavioral and learning challenges, and our team members provide the therapeutic, educational and vocational services they need to empower our students to reach their maximum potential to ensure student success.
For some of these children, coming to school allows them to be in a place where they are cared for and allowed to just be kids, and to reach their educational goals without the stress of food insecurity or housing availability.
As a Teacher Aide, you see the progress a child in your classroom is making as each week advances, giving you a sense of accomplishment knowing that you make a difference in each child’s life.
Teacher Aides assist the classroom teacher in all aspects of behavior management and supporting students' success in school. You will work onsite at our Albany campus, and follow the school calendar, which includes a six-week summer school beginning in July.
This position is the perfect opportunity for someone interested in working with children in a teaching setting, but without the educational criteria of a teacher.
Responsibilities:
Monitor student behavior and help maintain discipline in the classroom; record behavior data as requested; assist with crisis prevention; assist with de-escalation techniques with students.
Help implement behavior plans (BIP); record behavior data; and the completion of incident reports when requested.
Monitor, supervise and assist students during non-instructional periods within a variety of school environments (e.g. lunch, recess/breaks, bus loading/unloading, playground, classroom, washroom, field trips, transportation, assemblies) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
Help implement classroom PBIS universal components and Tier 2 and Tier 3 strategies for selected students.

Always monitor safety and well-being of students; monitor student attitudes and encourage positive behavior and interactions with peers.

Attend meetings, training, professional learning sessions (e.g. first aid, TCI, CPR, emergency procedures, behavior management) to enhance professional skills and competencies.

Job Summary | The Student Services Coordinator serves in the Office of Undergraduate Student Services, located in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering. The Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of activities relating to the recruitment of new undergraduate students to the department, the retention and satisfaction of current students, and support of accreditation assessment activities. In addition, the Coordinator will be the first student-facing individual addressing general inquiries and questions for MANE students and faculty and is responsible for creating a welcoming environment for the School of Engineering and MANE. Job Summary | The Administrative Specialist works closely with the Department Head and Administrative Coordinator to provide administrative and operational support to faculty, staff and students. The Administrative Specialist plans and organizes special events, manages the Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering (MANE) website and social media, provides support for the Invent@Rensselaer and other special programs, assists the department head with correspondence with donors and maintaining records, and provides support for the graduate programs. Job Summary | The Robotic Lab + Woodshop Supervisor (under the direction of the Woodshop Manager), will serve as the director of the school’s Robotic Lab as well as assist in a range of additional day-to-day duties throughout the shop facilities. Provide essential instructional support and technical expertise specific to robotic technology in support of the school’s entire academic and research enterprise. The supervisor will be a champion of integrating advanced manufacturing technologies with critical design-driven workflows. In addition to these specialized responsibilities, the supervisor will also assist in the direction and day-to-day operations of the woodshop and its technology. The supervisor will be responsible for reviewing, evaluating and approving on-going projects and methods proposed by students and faculty; will assist with the purchasing needs of the shop, and work with faculty throughout the year to establish an effective and streamlined interface between the design studios (i.e. pedagogical priorities) and the full-range of technologies offered throughout the shop. |
