We are seeking a candidate whose research area explores the interaction between biological systems and the environment as it relates to epidemiology and/or public health. Potential subjects of study include, but are not limited to: host-vector biology, microbiomes, evolution and transmission of infectious agents, genetic epidemiology, and environmental influences on pathogenesis. Candidates using combinations of field-based, wet-lab, genomics, and/or computational approaches are highly preferred. All candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in a biology or in a related field and preference will be given to those with at least one year of postdoctoral experience in research or teaching. Successful candidates will demonstrate potential to develop an independent research program, as evidenced by scholarship and productivity during graduate and postdoctoral activities, and will exhibit an interest in undergraduate teaching.
Successful applicants will be committed to excellence in teaching, research, mentoring undergraduates, and to fostering a diverse and inclusive community. The successful candidate will establish an active research program that incorporates undergraduates and contribute to the Department of Biology’s curriculum (https://www.union.edu/biology/courses-requirements) including our first/second year biology sequence and an upper-level course in their specialty. There is an opportunity to contribute to the College’s programs in Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering.
About theDepartment of Biological Sciences
The Department of Biological Sciences at Union College is committed to teaching and mentoring students in the classroom and in our active research laboratories. We contribute to numerous interdisciplinary programs including Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Environmental Science and Policy, Environmental Engineering, and Nanoscience (https://www.union.edu/interdisciplinary-studies). Housed in the newly-constructed Integrated Science and Engineering Complex, the Department is well equipped with NSF-funded instrumentation such as a microCT, a confocal microscope, a 3-D multi camera motion analysis system, Illumina DNA sequencer, scanning electron microscope, greenhouse space, growth chambers, and substantial microscopy, tissue culture and animal care facilities. We also have access to a continuous flow isotope mass spectrometer, elemental analyzer, and an ICPMS in Union College’s Stable Isotope and Geochemistry Laboratory. The College is situated in close proximity to a variety of terrestrial and aquatic habitats including the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains, the Mohawk River as well as numerous lakes, urban and suburban areas that are amenable to field study.

The annual salary range for this position is $81,500-$83,500. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering welcomes applicants with a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and mentoring undergraduates in the field of Civil Engineering. The CEE Department currently possesses expertise in the fields of geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, water quality and hydrology. We are particularly interested in increasing our capacity in the field of Structural Engineering. The new hire will teach courses in the curriculum as appropriate, including core classes and upper-level courses such as the fundamental theory of structure, as well as electives. In addition, there is an expectation that all new hires in the Department will teach at least one course annually to non-engineers ideally as part of the College’s new Complex Questions/Global Challenges and Social Justice common curriculum. The new hire will also be heavily involved in the ABET accreditation process which includes opportunities for curriculum development and assessment.
The successful candidate will also have a passion for interdisciplinary collaboration. The CEE department has a close relationship with the Environmental Science, Policy, and Engineering Program. Position description:
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering welcomes applicants with a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and mentoring undergraduates in the field of Environmental Engineering. The CEE Department currently has expertise in the areas of water quality, soil and sediment remediation, risk assessment, hydrology, sustainable treatment, water and wastewater management, and contaminant fate and transport processes. We are looking to expand and diversify our areas of focus into areas associated with the broad topic of air (e.g., air quality, climate change, atmospheric interactions, air pollution management, environmental change and adaptation, aerosol-climate interactions, wildfire-atmosphere interactions, wind power meteorology, and/or climate engineering). Experience working directly with communities is a plus. The new hire will teach courses in the curriculum as appropriate, including core classes such as Thermofluids, Introduction to Environmental Engineering and/or Contaminant Fate and Transport, as well as the development and teaching of upper level environmental engineering electives in their area of expertise. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent preparation to teach courses in Colonial and Modern Latin America, including courses that reflect the candidate’s area(s) of specialization, which will contribute to the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program and other relevant interdisciplinary programs (such as Gender, Sexuality, & Women’s Studies, Environmental Science, Policy, & Engineering, and/or Africana Studies) as well as the College’s General Education curriculum. The ability to teach pre-Columbian, indigenous and/or global history is highly desirable. The normal teaching load at Union College is six courses over three trimesters; the candidate would be expected to offer courses ranging from the introductory level to junior seminars and to supervise senior projects. Ph.D. in History or closely related field required at time of appointment (September 1, 2026).
About the History Department:
The History Department at Union College offers undergraduate courses that range from introductory surveys, through more focused topical courses, to advanced seminars. Many of these are writing-intensive courses that contribute to Union’s Writing Across the Curriculum program. All history majors write a senior thesis, a significant independent project directed by a History professor. Faculty teach courses in their respective areas of expertise, including by region, African, American (colonial, nineteenth, and twentieth century), East Asian, European (medieval, early modern, and modern), Latin America, South Asian, as well as topics such as digital history, environmental history, history of gender and identity, history of science and technology, Jewish history, and public history. Department members are active researchers with a strong publication record with prominent journals and publishers.
