Position description:
The position is renewable with a contract period of three years. Opportunities for promotion to Senior Lecturer (with renewable five-year contracts) occur after six years.
We encourage applicants from all areas of expertise, including but not limited to circuit design and fabrication, RF electronics, and communications. Applicants must have an M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field by August 2025. Candidates with industry or consulting experience in the above-mentioned specialties are welcome to apply.
Primary responsibilities of the successful candidate include the following:
Teaching undergraduate courses in circuit analysis and design, RF electronics, and communications. Developing undergraduate elective courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise. Supervision of senior capstone projects. Co-curricular duties that may include: supervising the student projects lab; organizing the department seminar series; coordinating the senior capstone design experience; and advising student clubs and design competition teams.
Although research is not an expectation of this position, the successful candidate will have the option to continue scholarly activity and will be eligible to apply for internal College funds, and will have access to a wide array of advanced instrumentation and facilities.
About the Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering Department:
In 1845, Union College became the first liberal arts institution in the nation to offer a degree in engineering. We currently offer ABET-accredited degree programs in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, and new programs in Civil and Environmental engineering that will seek ABET accreditation. Our programs emphasize close student-faculty interaction with opportunities to study abroad, perform hands-on undergraduate research, and minor in disciplines ranging from theater and dance to history and economics.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about teaching, supervising undergraduate research, sustaining an independent research program, and providing service to the department. We welcome applicants from all areas of expertise, including those that can further strengthen connections between computer science and the liberal arts. A Ph.D. in computer science or a related area, either completed or close to completed, is required.
This visiting position involves teaching the equivalent of two courses in each of three trimesters and serving as an academic advisor. Advising senior projects counts towards this teaching load. The successful candidate can expect to teach core CS classes along with courses in their area(s) of expertise. Preference will be given to candidates able to contribute to our data analytics program or otherwise interested in teaching courses at the interface of CS and other fields, such as the natural sciences, mathematics, or the humanities.

About the Department
Our department offers a B.S. in computer science and supports both the computational track of the Neuroscience major and an ABET accredited B.S. in computer engineering with the Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering Department. We also participate in several computational minors including digital media, music technology, digital studies, and data analytics. Faculty research areas include robotics, HCI, NLP, formal methods, computational complexity, and software design.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering welcomes applicants with a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and mentoring undergraduates in the field of Civil Engineering. The CEE Department currently possesses expertise in the fields of geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, water quality and hydrology. We are particularly interested in increasing our capacity in the field of Structural Engineering. The new hire will teach courses in the curriculum as appropriate, including core classes and upper-level courses such as the fundamental theory of structure, as well as electives such as design of steel structures and design of concrete structures. In addition, there is an expectation that all new hires in the Department will teach at least one course annually to non-engineers ideally as part of the College’s new Complex Questions/Global Challenges and Social Justice common curriculum. The new hire will also be heavily involved in the ABET accreditation process which includes opportunities for curriculum development and assessment.
The successful candidate will also have a strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration. The CEE department has a close relationship with the Environmental Science, Policy, and Engineering Program. Consistent with Union’s goal to break new ground with respect to integrating engineering fields with the liberal arts, we also welcome applicants who are eager to explore joint programming possibilities with departments and programs in the humanities and social sciences, including with interdisciplinary programs that operate in DEIB spaces with respect to curriculum (e.g., Africana Studies, Asian Studies, Law and Humanities, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies).
All candidates must have an earned Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering with preferred expertise in structural engineering; applicants close to finishing the Ph.D. will be considered. Successful candidates will demonstrate the potential to advance a research program at Union College that involves undergraduates. Preference will also be given to those who have a demonstrated interest in undergraduate teaching. Job Summary | Job Summary: The School of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is seeking to fill its distinguished Bedford Visiting Professorship, a three-year contractual (non-tenure-track) appointment that will bring an internationally renowned structural engineer to the school to oversee our interdisciplinary courses designed for architecture and civil engineering students.
