Assistant Athletic Trainer
Pay Status and Classification: Exempt, Regular full-time. This is a 12 month position.
Supervisor: Head Athletic Trainer/Student-Athlete Program Director
Position Purpose: Under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the athletic department by providing care to student-athletes including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Union College sponsors 26 intercollegiate sports, 24 in Division III, with Ice Hockey competing at Division I. The College is committed to excellence in academics and athletics, diversity and a well-balanced, broad based intercollegiate athletics program dedicated to the concept of the student-athlete.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation, and Treatment: Develop and implement injury prevention programs. Provide first aid and emergency care when necessary. Evaluate and diagnose athletic injuries. Design and monitor rehabilitation programs for injured student athletes. Provides therapeutic treatment such as taping, bracing, and modalities.
- Communication and Collaboration: Educate student athletes on care and prevention of athletic injuries. Provide guidance on proper conditioning techniques. Communicate effectively with coaches and student athletes about injury status and progress. Coordinates with physicians and healthcare providers as needed.
- Administration: Provides support with the daily operations of the athletic training room and assists with the supervision of work study students. Electronic medical record keeping of athletic injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or a related field required. Master’s degree and experience with National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) regulations and compliance knowledge preferred.
- National Athletic Trainers Association certified and in good standing with the Board of Certification (BOC) for athletic trainers.
- First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and Automated External Defibrillator certifications required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Ability to work in inclement weather.
- Physical requirements: Ability to engage in various physical activities, which may include lifting items of different weights of 25 pounds and more, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to travel when necessary.
- Must be a licensed athletic trainer in New York State or eligible for licensing in the state of New York.
- A valid United States driver's license or eligibility for licensing is required.
- Strong computer skills and an understanding of electronic medical record keeping.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work within a collaborative team environment.
- The ability to foster and enhance a thriving, culturally diverse, and inclusive learning community, while promoting a sense of belonging among students, alumni, faculty, and staff colleagues.

Compensation
The annual salary range this position is $48,000.00-$52,000.00. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
