Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Mechanical Engineering
Supervisor: Department Chair
Union College invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Mechanical Engineering. The starting date for the position can begin as early as 1 January 2025 but will begin no later than 1 September 2025. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Position Description
This position is broadly in solid mechanics with a focus in the areas of advanced manufacturing and/or applied robotics in manufacturing. Other emerging areas of solid mechanics may be considered. A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field) is required, but applicants close to finishing their Ph.D. will also be considered. We strongly encourage applications from members of groups traditionally underrepresented in the field. Increasing diversity on campus is a key objective of this hire and a top priority for Union, one that is integral to our mission of preparing students for a globally interconnected world.
The successful candidate would teach and develop content for a range of undergraduate courses and laboratories in the areas of solid mechanics, mechanical design, mechanisms and machines, controls and manufacturing. Preference will be given to applicants who can teach in several of these areas. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and conducting high quality, peer reviewed and published research are requirements for success in the position. Union College has a strong record in undergraduate research, and candidates will be expected to pursue an active program of scholarly research involving undergraduate students. About the Department of Mechanical Engineering
We are a nationally ranked mechanical engineering program whose curriculum emphasizes close student-faculty interactions in small class settings, hands on laboratory experiences and team based design and build projects at every class level. We are home to successful cross disciplinary Aero and Baja student competition teams who regularly place higher than much larger schools. Our faculty are true teacher-scholars who obtain competitive grants, publish in high impact journals, present at international conferences and involve undergraduate students in our research at the deepest levels.

Compensation
The annual salary range for this position is $93,000-$96,000. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Purpose: The candidate will perform journey level quality work, and is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of all college owned electrical systems and equipment.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Operations: Meets the electrical needs of the campus community by performing work requests, emergencies, and special set-ups for faculty, staff and students. Works with various departments in order to achieve common goals and desires. Duties include: Ballast/driver, Switch/receptacle, and Breaker/Feeder replacements.
- Maintenance: Performs and maintains functionality of equipment and systems, including: Emergency Lighting, Switchgear, Variable Frequency Drives, Motor Control Centers, Transformers, and Battery back-up systems. Conducts monthly preventive maintenance in order to minimize equipment downtime.
- Projects: Plans and lays out work accordingly with knowledge and understanding of reading blue prints. Collaborates with team members on finding the best approach while leading to set an example. Lighting retrofits, additional circuitry, EV Charger installations, and feeder upgrades are some of the in-house team projects.
- Trouble-Shooting: Identifying and finding solutions when circumstances arise in order to maintain a 24/7 power generating facility. Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, diagnosis motor and motor control failures, and capacity to grow and develop skills through hands on training
Qualifications:
- High school diploma, two-year technical trade school, or apprenticeship program, and/or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience.
- Five years as a Journeyman Electrician, experience in residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
- Valid Commercial Electrician’s License (Preferred in Schenectady, Albany, or Troy).
- Must have good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Computer skills including (Word, Excel, and Adobe).
- Knowledge of medium voltage three phase systems (13.2KV), WYE/DELTA and low voltage systems (24, 120, 208, 277, and 480v).
- Available for round-the-clock emergency response both on and off campus.
- Strong understanding and application of the National Electrical Code, NFPA, and OSHA standards on electrical and work safety procedures.

Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University at Albany seeks applicants for an Infrastructure Automation Engineer to support the academic, research, and business needs of this vibrant institution. As part of a group of IT professionals, the Infrastructure Automation Engineer plays a key role in design, development, implementation, and maintenance of application and infrastructure systems to provide secure and robust solutions. They are adept at working in physical and virtual environments, and on-premises and cloud-based applications.
The Infrastructure Automation Engineer collaborates across ITS, providing input and expertise to a range of services.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day operational ownership for assigned AI/ML platforms including patching, upgrading, configuration management, system backups, continuous monitoring, and performance management.
- Design and implement automated solutions for hardware and software infrastructure.
- Automate the deployment, scaling, and monitoring of applications and services, and administer automated workflow tools, middleware application servers (i.e., Oracle Weblogic, IBM WebSphere), and server visualization technologies (i.e., VMware, Red Hat Virtualization, or Oracle VM).
- Create and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) scripts using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet.
- Collaborate with software development and operations teams to implement continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Manage and maintain virtual and cloud-based infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, and networking equipment.
- Monitor and optimize system performance and availability.
- Maintain security posture in accordance with industry best practice and ITS policies and procedures. Implement and maintain security controls to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data and systems.
- Participate in incident response and disaster recovery planning and testing.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to improve the efficiency and reliability of our infrastructure.
- Manage host environments to ensure proper tuning and sufficient capacity (including web servers, database servers, VMWare, Cisco, Citrix, SAN, directories, and blades).
- Engage in the design and build of solutions that align with architectural norms, industry best practices, ITS standards, and meet project and operational requirements. Contribute to the development of architectural blueprints, templates, tools, systems standards, technical roadmaps, and operational procedures.
- Plan, design, build, implement, and support a growing array of cloud automation tools and services.
- Maintain subject matter expertise by staying current with industry trends and following a professional development plan.

As a Residential Youth Counselor, you will provide daily therapeutic care and programming according to agency policy and governing bodies' (DSS, OMH, JCAHO, etc.) requirements for elementary aged children.. You will work on-site on our Albany campus and will report to the Residential Supervisor.
Responsibilities:
1:1 Residential Counselor
Provide for the physical and psychological needs of clients, including physical safety, hygiene, clothing, food, cooking, medical care, and providing a reliable and nurturing environment.
- You will follow an individual youth’s 1:1 expectations plan, ICMP, and any safety plans in place.
- Engage the youth in activities and conversation that are age appropriate and at the appropriate developmental level.
- Document in writing a summary of each shift.
- Learn the history and specific issues associated with the youth who requires 1:1; will learn how to safely manage any crisis.
- Transport 1:1 client for medical, mental health, and other essential needs.
RC1
- You will must be able to work within trauma informed framework of program, including identifying and using coping/safety plans, maintaining consistency, providing regular routine, and controlling own response to youth.
- Engage and form positive relationship with all youth served.
- Complete all mandatory trainings according to programmatic guidelines.
- Display basic competency in TCI techniques.
- Follow outlined program routines, therapeutic plans of youth, and program rules and protocols.
- Work as part of a team including colleague residential counselors, clinicians, on line oncall, supervisors, and other administrative and functional support staff.
- Maintain respectful and appropriate communication with internal and external customers, including county workers, medical staff, parents etc.
- Complete and maintain documentation to meet programmatic and regulatory standards.
- Transport clients for medical, mental health, and other essential needs.
RC2
All of the above plus the following:
- You will facilitate groups/coached visitation, understanding and applying curriculum and appropriate practice models, i.e. DBT, SAY, etc.
- Take on specific leadership responsibilities for dorm/cottage, including coordinating activities, participating in program-wide committee.
- Must have the ability, skill, and knowledge to take a lead role in a team.
- Form positive relationships with more challenging youth and families.
RC3
All of the above plus the following:
- Display critical thinking and problem solving skills related to residential program needs.
- Display good judgment and decision making related to all program routines, therapeutic plans of youth, and program rules and protocols.
- Lead, delegate, and plan work for other team members.
Requirements and Education:
- HS Diploma or GED is required.
- Experience working with emotionally disturbed population.
- NYS drivers license with less than 6 points on license.
