Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment and Heavy Truck Mechanic to join our team in Rapid City, SD. This role is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and construction equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and diagnostic skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to keep equipment operating at peak performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on heavy trucks and equipment, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and lubrication.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and fuel system issues using manual tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Repair and replace defective parts such as engines, transmissions, axles, brakes, steering components, suspension systems, and hydraulics.
  • Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and inspection reports.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns in the shop or in the field as required.
  • Operate and test repaired equipment to verify proper function.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Keep shop tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized.

Qualifications

  • Technical/vocational training in diesel mechanics preferred or 2+ years of experience as a heavy equipment, truck, or diesel mechanic (construction, mining, or trucking industry experience a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy-duty drive trains.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic codes.
  • Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying conditions (indoor/outdoor, weather, noise).
  • Must be able to pass a physical and a background check.
