Sign On Bonus - $1,500(paid in 2 parts 1/2 at 30 days and 1/2 at a year) (full time only qualifies)

Available shifts - Monday - Friday between 8:00 am - 4:00 pm - no weekends

Northern Rivers has opportunities for Teacher Aides at our Neil Hellman School. The school serves residential and day students with serious emotional, behavioral and learning challenges, and our team members provide the therapeutic, educational and vocational services they need to empower our students to reach their maximum potential to ensure student success.
For some of these children, coming to school allows them to be in a place where they are cared for and allowed to just be kids, and to reach their educational goals without the stress of food insecurity or housing availability.
As a Teacher Aide, you see the progress a child in your classroom is making as each week advances, giving you a sense of accomplishment knowing that you make a difference in each child’s life.
Teacher Aides assist the classroom teacher in all aspects of behavior management and supporting students' success in school. You will work onsite at our Albany campus, and follow the school calendar, which includes a six-week summer school beginning in July.
This position is the perfect opportunity for someone interested in working with children in a teaching setting, but without the educational criteria of a teacher.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor student behavior and help maintain discipline in the classroom; record behavior data as requested; assist with crisis prevention; assist with de-escalation techniques with students.

• Help implement behavior plans (BIP); record behavior data; and the completion of incident reports when requested.

• Monitor, supervise and assist students during non-instructional periods within a variety of school environments (e.g. lunch, recess/breaks, bus loading/unloading, playground, classroom, washroom, field trips, transportation, assemblies) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.

• Help implement classroom PBIS universal components and Tier 2 and Tier 3 strategies for selected students.

• Collaborate with teachers and other staff to incorporate information provided by parents, doctors, nurses, therapists and others to understand the needs of and provide services for students.

• Always monitor safety and well-being of students; monitor student attitudes and encourage positive behavior and interactions with peers.

• Perform clerical duties; maintain records of student progress; develop and file incident reports; maintain student files; check daily attendance; make copies; develop classroom displays and instructional material; maintain and operate computers, smartboards and other classroom equipment.

• Attend meetings, training, professional learning sessions (e.g. first aid, TCI, CPR, emergency procedures, behavior management) to enhance professional skills and competencies.

• Follow all Agency policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to our school and students.

• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as requested by the teacher and principal
  

Requirements and Education:

• High School Diploma required

• Ability to work with students who demonstrate serious emotional and behavioral challenges, ages 6-21

Special Education Teacher

As a Preschool Special Education Teacher, you will develop and implement of classroom instructional plans for preschool students in the Neil Hellman Preschool. You will also support students' success in academic and behavioral goals. You will report to the Preschool Supervising Teacher and you will work onsite.

Responsibilities:

• Follow all Agency policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations about our school and students.
• Develop and implement a classroom instructional plan based on a student's IEP and Creative Curriculum Objectives for Development and Learning, creating lessons that are differentiated as to meet the needs of all students.
• Develop and implement Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for students in their classroom. Ensure that accommodations and modifications are provided. Provide specially designed instruction and monitor student progress toward academic and behavioral goals. Complete progress reports and IEP updates, and participate in CPSE meetings as scheduled.
• Coordinate the creation of special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities; create and modify materials to match student abilities.
• Develop and coordinate the implementation of individual and classroom behavior plans for managing student behavior to maintain discipline in the classroom; oversee the collecting of behavior data; assist classroom staff with intervention techniques; assist classroom staff with de-escalation techniques; reteach students appropriate behavior strategies.
• Manage, coordinate and model the implementation of Pyramid Model principles and practices in the classroom to build social and emotional competence and to support children through nurturing and responsive relationships and a high-quality environment.
• Coordinate the safety and well- being of students through the use of established classroom and schoolwide processes and procedures; supervise classroom staff in implementing these with their work with students throughout the building.
• Follow school and agency procedures and policies for reporting incidents. This includes behavior incident reports (BIR) and incidents such as child/sexual abuse, substance abuse, harassment, bullying, and violence.
• Establish relationships with parents and family members to create a partnership around student treatment, student behavior, and academic progress.
• Schedule, supervise, and monitor teacher assistants as they assist students in various non-instructional environments (e.g. bus loading/unloading, playground, classroom, washroom, field trips, transportation)
• Lead and attend classroom team meetings, and behavior/treatment meetings and professional training and development sessions or needed (e.g. Pyramid, CPR, emergency procedures and other agency requirements.)
• Provide leadership to assigned teacher aides and assistants in the various clerical and non-instructional duties or needed for your classroom.
• Work with other teachers, clinicians, administrators, medical staff and other school staff to provide integrated support, assistance, and treatment to students.

Requirements and Education:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Special Education (Master's Degree preferred) or subject area, and ability to work with students who demonstrate serious emotional and behavioral challenges, ages 3-5. General education certification with enrollment in a program that leads to special education certification may be considered.
