SYSTEM OPERATOR/SR SYSTEM OPERATOR

Location: North Fort Myers, FL
Work hours: Rotating shifts. 24-7coverage. Extended hours frequently required

Position Summary: This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of and operating the electrical system, analyzing and coordinating the restoration of electrical outages, issuing switching orders to crews in field, and for maintaining field crew safety while working under switching orders. This position is required to work shift work on a rotating basis and is on call 24 hours a day.

Position Responsibilities, System Operator:

  • Operate the Transmission, Substation, Distribution and Load Management Systems under the guidance and direction of a Senior System Operator and Supervisor.
  • Write, issue, and review switching, clearance, and caution orders within the policies of LCEC’s Switching and Tagging Procedures.
  • Abide by all LCEC safety policies and guidelines.
  • Direct field crews in the repair/restoration of system problems and power outages.
  • Provide after business hours support handling customer calls and taking appropriate action.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers at all levels within LCEC. Ensure smooth operations, productive communications, and effective understanding during all interpersonal contacts. Provide current and accurate information to all requesters, courteously and in a timely manner.

 Position Responsibilities, Senior System Operator:

  • Operate the Transmission, Substation, Distribution and Load Management Systems within the NERC Operating Standards for Reliability. The Senior Operator has the responsibility and authority to take real time actions for the stable & reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System.
  • Give directions to the System Operators for the reliable & stable operation of the Bulk Electric System.
  • Implement directives from the Reliability Coordinator and Balancing Authority or other Transmission Operators to maintain the stable, reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System.
  • Write, issue, and review switching, clearance, and caution orders within the policies of LCEC’s Switching and Tagging Procedures.
  • Abide by all LCEC safety policies and guidelines.

  • Provide after business hours support handling customer calls and taking appropriate action.

System Operator (T6)

Required

  • Two (2) years’ college or technical school in an electrical curriculum or equivalent (e.g. 4 year apprenticeship program), or
  • Five (5) years’ work as a Journeyman Lineman, Substation Electrician, Meter Tester/Installer, System Operator, or related field, or
  • Five (5) years’ experience in the engineering, operation or maintenance in an electric utility.
  • Must be able to distinguish between and recognize the colors on the LCEC SCADA system.
  • Ability to achieve NERC Transmission Operator Certification within 12 months of starting the position by completing LCEC supplied training program.
  • Must live within a 45 minute commute from regular worksite

Desired

  • Five (5) years’ experience as an electrical system operator
  • NERC Transmission Certification

Senior System Operator (T7)

Required

  • Two (2) years’ college or technical school in an electrical curriculum, or
  • Seven (7) years’ work as a Journeyman Lineman, Substation Electrician, Meter Tester/Installer, System Operator, or related field, or
  • Seven (7) years’ experience in the engineering, operation or maintenance in an electric utility.
  • Must be able to distinguish between and recognize the colors, on the SCADA system.
  • NERC Transmission Operator Certification
  • Must live within a 45 minute commute from regular worksite

Desired

  • Ten (10) years’ experience as an electrical system operator
  • NERC Transmission Operator Certification
