Detention Officer

SUMMARY:

Applicant must be a motivated individual who will provide structured program and activities while maintaining a high sense of safety and security in accordance with the established Policies and Procedures.  These activities will encourage appropriate interactions, promote a sense of self-worth, and reinforce the relationship between behavior and consequences.  The ideal candidate will strive to embody a positive, caring, and respectful image that we hope the youth will emulate.  Must be able and willing to work a flexible schedule that includes rotating shifts, callback status, and evening/night/weekend hours. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference given to persons with a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in the Social Sciences, or any combination of education and experience that would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability, in the opinion of management, required to perform the job.  Must pass the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Physical Ability Testing (PAT) standard prior to interviewing for the position.  The PAT consists of 15 sit-ups in one minute; 13 push-ups and a 1.5-mile run in less than 17 minutes and 17 seconds.  Must pass a comprehensive, in-depth background investigation, be able to obtain a State Corrections Officer Certificate, possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License and be able to obtain and maintain Defensive Driving Certification, and First Aid/CPR/AED cards.
