Organization:

The Menands Market, officially known as the Capital District Cooperative, Inc., is a farmer-owned corporation that provides a central location for local, Capital District agricultural producers to market their product.

Position Description and Responsibilities:

The Menands Market is seeking a Business Development Manager to work closely with the Board of Directors to lead the planning, development and implementation of all business development activities, with an emphasis on increasing the number and diversity of buyers at the market.  This position requires knowledge of fresh produce and flower industries, proven business development track record and the vision, drive and energy to contribute to the growth of our organization.

Responsibilities include proactively networking and building relationships with buyers and vendors, identify and develop new business enterprises, increase the quality and quantity of market buyers and vendors.   Engage and grow the current cooperative membership.  Foster mutually beneficial relationships with on-site tenants.   Manage all marketing and advertising efforts.   Advise the board and property manager on physical site improvements related to business development opportunities and providing the Board of Directors with guidance on long-term business planning and buyer engagement strategies.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business, Marketing, Finance, Ag Economics, or related fields and 3-5 years of sales, development, or marketing experience in related fields.  Able to work efficiently with industry, economic development groups, government, advisory boards and committees, community and funding partners and other stakeholders.

Proven organizational and time-management skills.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Competence utilizing technology:  Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet and Social Media and web development tools.

Able to meet the travel requirements of the position, including having reliable transportation and maintaining a valid driver’s license.

Ability to work evenings and weekends as essential job functions require.

Successful experience obtaining new funding, including grants and industry support.

Creativity, energy, motivation and positive enthusiasm.

Appreciation of agriculture as a business and as a lifestyle.

Location:

This position will be based in the market office at 381 Broadway, Menands, NY 12204, with occasional local and regional travel.

Reporting:

This position will report to the Board of Directors.

Hours:

This position is a part-time position and includes occasional early morning, night and weekend work hours.

Compensation:

Compensation commensurate with experience
