Skills Trainer - Albany


The skills trainer delivers home and community-based supports and services to refer youth. The role of this position is to support the child/youth to be an active and productive member of their family and community. This position requires a flexible schedule.


  • Maintain close communication and coordination with the Child and Family Treatment Services Team
  • Respect family and youth commitments by maintaining a flexible schedule
  • Use rehabilitation interventions and individualized, collaborative, hands-on training to build developmentally appropriate skills
  • Restore, rehabilitate and support the youth to reduce the effect of the child’s behavioral health condition to reestablish daily functioning skills
  • Work with children and youth both individually and in group settings
  • Perform the basic accountability tasks related to the job which include compiling and maintaining all necessary records, forms and reports
  • Attend required training
  • Read required books
  • Responsible for complying with rules and regulations governing access to Protected Health Information under HIPAA. Access to Protected Health Information is limited to the extent required to perform responsibilities effectively and efficiently. No access will be permitted unnecessarily. These essential job functions dictate the level of access, use, and disclosure of confidential information
  • Perform other duties as requested by your immediate supervisor or the Chief Executive Officer


Required Experience:



  • High school diploma with a minimum 1 year of experience in mental health, addiction and/or foster care; Associate degree strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability and willingness to engage and work with families in an "in-home" context
  • Ability to adapt and individualize program interventions to utilize family strengths and skills.
  • Flexibility to work when the families are available to meet.
  • Commitment to supporting youth and families to solve their own problems
  • Ability to set appropriate boundaries and limits consistent with best practice
  • Ability to establish a mutually respectful relationship in which the youth is a full partner
  • Ability to carry our program goals created by youth and families
  • Ability to work creatively and independently to accomplish youth goals
  • Ability to handle confidential material in a responsible manner
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License.
  • Vehicle required: Must be safe and dependable.



  • Driving to and from appointments and activities as assigned
  • Word processing: Including responding to e-mails, completing computerized documentation
  • Lifting of Agency file books - weighing approximately 6-8 lbs. each - 5 inch binders. File in them as needed, including sorting paperwork, hole punching, opening and closing of binder rings. As needed
  • Completing paperwork -Such as copying, stapling as needed.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Walking distances
  • Walking up and down stairs inside/outside
  • Able to have contact with consumer’s - non-contagious illness



  • Flexible hours, weekend availability required
