Risk Management- Workers Compensation Coordinator
Provides professional level support in areas of claims administration, loss prevention, workers compensation, insurance and contract management. Performs various administrative functions, to include typing documents, answering telephones, greeting the public; maintains database of workers compensation claims, monitors status, and ensures that claims are handled in a timely manner; serves as liaison between county and other agencies; and prepares requisition/payment authorizations as directed, monitors budgetary information, and updates expenditures and balances.
Essential Duties: Coordinates the handling of all workers compensation claims with the counties third party claims administrator. Submits agenda items, meeting notifications, workers’ compensation reporting procedures, and responds to citizen complaints, Create and provide claim reports and performance measurement data. Answers the telephone; takes and delivers messages for risk manager. Greets public; Maintains database on workers’ compensation claims, verifies workers’ compensation coverage, Receive, investigate, process and/or adjust property/casualty and workers compensation files including the modified duty program. Prepares annual workers compensation renewal; serves as liaison between the insurance company, physicians, therapists, and employees. Prepares requisition/payment authorizations as directed, monitors budgetary information, and updates expenditures and balances. Notifies all employees/committee members of upcoming training classes/meetings, tracks attendance at classes, attends training, workshops, and meetings as directed; assists with new hire safety orientation and monthly trainings as needed. Arranges physician appointments for injured employees, monitors claims/lost time, and maintains record of litigation cases against the county; Maintains departmental calendar/schedule, schedules meeting rooms, makes travel arrangements, and prepares travel advances and reimbursements; processes incoming mail. Monitors and manages certificate of liability insurance (COI) for contracts. Administers the drug and alcohol testing program; assists with collision and claim scene investigations to include taking claimant and witness statements. Performs related duties as assigned.
High school graduation, or its equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Required: Two years workers compensation, risk management and or contract insurance experience. Preferred: Experience with County Government in risk management and contract insurance preferred. Proficient in excel, outlook, power point and word.
Basic bookkeeping procedures; Workers’ Compensation Claims Management, (COI) Certificate of Insurance Management, Contracts Management, Drug Testing Program Management, assist in creating policies and procedures as needed; and standard office practices. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with county employees, representatives of governmental agencies, and the general public; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; operate standard word processing and spreadsheet software; read and interpret standard policies and procedures; work with minimum supervision; organize and prioritize tasks; and remain calm when dealing with irate citizens.
