Marine Service Technician (Mechanic)
OVERVIEW: The Marine/Service Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of boats, machinery and trailers. Including, but not limited to engines, rigging, drives, navigation equipment, electrical systems, steering systems and plumbing
Examine boat and discuss the nature and extent of damage or malfunction with the service advisor or customer.
Perform diagnostics and repair of all types of gasoline marine engines and transmissions/drives. Use appropriate diagnostic equipment when necessary including computer diagnostic systems.
Perform mechanical repair work such as:
remove engine, transom or outdrive
disassemble unit and inspect parts for wear
overhaul or replace carburetors, distributors, starters, pumps, electrical, lower units, drives, water pumps and fuel systems
rewire ignition system, lights and instrument panel
replace and/or repair wheel bearings and trailer lights
install and repair accessories such as radios, GPS units, windshield wipers, horns, etc.
Operate a hydraulic jack or hoist as needed.
Advise customers and/or insurance adjusters as to necessary repairs.
Complete repair work within the established timeframe
Ensure all warranty work is completed according to manufacturer's guidelines
Safely operate company and customer vessels during diagnostic water testing operations
Maintain company tools in good condition and according to guidelines
Other duties as assigned
TECHNICAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Technical school training preferred
ABYC and/or Manufacturer certifications preferred
Ability to ascend and descend ladder
Must carry own tools
Ability to work in confined spaces
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Basic boat handling skills preferred
Experience with both outboard and sterndrive engines preferred
Attend factory training to attain and/or maintain certifications annually
Ability to work overtime in order to meet deadlines
